Family Mediation

Family mediation applies the principles of mediation to assist families in resolving conflict.

What is Family Mediation?

Family mediation may be an appropriate process of dispute resolution when families have conflict with parenting schedules, family finances, adjustments to child and/or spousal support, distribution of inherited property or estate planning goals.

Benefits of Family Mediation

Reconciliation of divergent views

Greater understanding between participants

Improved communication

Less resentment between family members

Sound decision-making resulting in an acceptable solution

How Does Family Mediation Work?

A family mediator, as a neutral third party, will assist family members with discussion and negotiation in areas of conflict within the family. Family mediation provides participants the opportunity to express differing views in a safe environment, ask questions, discuss all aspects of a conflict and explore solutions. The participants have control of the process, and the outcome is the creation of a mutually acceptable agreement addressing the family’s particular situation.
